Labor Day Reunion! It is time for the 2005 Marwood Labor Day Reunion! Get ready for an exciting weekend of shopping ‘til you drop and jamming to the sweet music of Chicago’s annual Jazz Fest. I hope you all can make it! Location: Kyle Liss's house at 1020 N. Columbian Ave., Oak Park, Illinois. Home Phone # (708) 660-1743. Everyone will be sleeping in the basement and in the backyard in tents. Schedule Friday, September 2nd Drop-off: 6:00 to 10:00 pm. We will provide pizza, chips, and pop for dinner tonight. If you are not staying overnight on either night, please let us know when you check-in and have your parents pick you up no later than 11:00 on either Friday or Saturday night. If you are not staying overnight on Friday and coming back on Saturday, please don't come any earlier than 8:00 am. Once everyone gets here, we'll have a meeting to cover house rules during the weekend. We'll spend the rest of the night just hanging out at my house. Saturday, September 3rd Wake-up: Just eat breakfast before 9:30 in the morning, so that you'll be ready to leave at 10:00. Leave for Chi-town: At 10:00 am, we'll EITHER walk to the Green Line and take that downtown, OR (hopefully) we'll have chartered a bus to take us all down instead of using the El. There will be parent chaperones, so parents, you don't have to worry about anyone getting lost or any other mishaps. Downtown: If we take the El, we will take the Green Line and then transfer to the Red Line, and take that directly to Water Tower. If we take the rented bus there, it will pick us up from my house, and it will drop us off right in the vicinity of Water Tower. We'll just hang out and shop at Water Tower until 5:00 pm, and then walk to Jazz Fest at Grant Park. One parent will bring Subway for all of us, and we'll eat them there. Maybe we'll play some frisbee? Return to my house: At about 10:00 pm, the bus will come to pick us up either at Grant Park or somewhere in the very near vicinity. SWEET! The rented bus will take us directly to my house (we know this part for sure). Arrive at my house: At about 11:00 pm we'll get back to my house, and we'll just hang out some more. Sunday, September 4th Wake-up: You might want to get up for breakfast, but otherwise it doesn't really matter. Just don't get caught off guard by your parents coming early if you think they're coming late. Communication is a plus. Pick-up will be from 9:00 am to noon. Once everyone has left the 4th years will head on over to Mira deJong's house. She lives at 1016 N. Euclid, which is literally about 2 blocks from my house, so we'll just walk there. Rules: There will be no drugs, smoking, marijuana, alcohol, sex, firearms, fireworks, or any substances that may cause you to stay up so long that you hear my rooster crow in the morning, allowed at reunion. Costs: Everyone needs to bring either a $40 check (made out to M. A. Jirasek) or $40 in cash to cover the costs of the weekend. This will cover the snacks, bottled water, dinner on Friday, bus / train transportation, breakfast on Saturday and Sunday, and dinner (Subway) at Jazz Fest. I know it's a little more expensive than last year, but we're giving parents money for the meals that they buy, and we're trying to get a round trip bus to make things easier on the parent volunteers. This money does NOT cover lunch at Water Tower (it can be kinda pricey) or spending money for shopping, souvenirs, etc. If for some reason we have leftover money, it will go to the deJongs to help them with any costs that arise from hosting the 4th years on Sunday night and Monday morning. What to Bring: You should bring clean clothes, a sleeping bag or a couple blankets, a pillow, a toothbrush and other such toiletries, a frisbee or football for Jazz Fest if you want (I will also bring two frisbees), a tent if you want one (we'll have one set up, but we can fit at least one or two more in my backyard... you can also just sleep outside with no tent if you want, that's always fun, too), a flashlight if you want, pictures to show people, and other such fun things. DO NOT BRING SNACKS. Sorry for the mix up. I sent out in an e-mail that you could bring chips and such, but my mom DOES NOT want people eating in the basement. The eating will be done in the kitchen and outside only. Sorry again for the misunderstanding. Medication: If any one is on medication, it would be good to let my mom know. We won't distribute it, but she can help remind people to take it. She used to be a nurse, so she's good like that. Transportation: Again, we'll be renting a bus to drive us back from downtown. We will try to get the same bus to drive us there, but if we can't, we will take the El downtown, using the Green and Red Lines. Sidenotes: We have two bathrooms in our house that we can use, so it won't be too bad. We will need to be considerate and share, though :). If you decide to sleep outside, don't make a lot of noise after 11:00, because we have young girls next door and as of now our neighbors still like us. Lights out will be at 1:30 in the morning both inside and outside, and that gives us a bunch of time, so my parents really appreciate your cooperation, and I appreciate you giving your cooperation. It might get a little cozy, but my basement is big 2 and my backyard is decent sized. I'm not really sure how cramped it's going to be, but please just be mindful of everyone around you and don't take up too much space. Thanks! I hope to see you all at reunion and I'm extremely excited! And remember that by signing the slip you're agreeing to our house rules, too. House Rules Labor Day Reunion Weekend 2005 1.Respect: Respect each other. Respect the house. Respect the inhabitants. Help the First Years to feel comfortable and to know what to do at a reunion. Remember how you felt your first year. We want to have a good time so we need to follow some rules. 3 2.NO-NOs: No sex, drugs, marijuana, alcohol, smoking, firearms, and anything else along those lines that has not been set in stone right here. 3.Keep It Clean: Follow basic housekeeping – put garbage in garbage cans, put recycling in blue recycling bins. If those are overflowing, help take the garbage and recycling out. Don’t mess with things in the house. If you spill something and need help cleaning it up, tell Kyle. If the toilets clog or drains back up, tell parents immediately! 4.Reusables: We are going to try using real glasses, plates, silverware, and napkins in order to make a Marwoodian statement to help the environment. Please be sure not to throw any of these things out – believe it or not it’s happened before! Clear any leftovers from your plate into the garbage before rinsing your plate in the sink and washing it or at least stacking it next to the sink. Pour leftovers from cups or mugs into the sink – then rinse and stack. Put silverware in the soapy bowl in the sink to soak. Put cloth napkins in the hamper. If anyone feels like washing dishes, it will be much appreciated! 5.Bathrooms: One on the main floor and one in the basement. During meals use the one that’s open or most convenient. At night the tent people should use the one on the main floor and the basement people should use the one downstairs. 6.Backyard: Stay in the backyard rather than the front yard. Who wants to scare the neighbors? 7.Taylor Park: If you want to walk to Taylor Park, (be back no later than 11:00 pm), please sign the IN / OUT sheet on the clipboard on the kitchen counter. Make sure you go in groups of 3 or more and take care of each other, especially those who are not from Oak Park. 8.Sleeping: either downstairs in the basement or outside in tents in the backyard. No food or drinks in the basement or in tents. Okay to bring bottled water (we have for you) in those places. Please roll up your sleeping bags in the morning and put your backpacks, duffels, etc. on top so there’s some room to move around. 9.Lights Out: At 1:30 am. Parental units will be circulating and will try not to scare you checking up on things. Make our job easy, please! 10.Wake Up: On SAT in time to eat breakfast by 9:30 am and be ready to go out the door at 10:00 am. On SUN in time to eat breakfast and be ready for pick-up between 9:00 am and 12:00 noon, whatever time you’re being picked up. 11.Problems: Kyle’s parents, Ma? and Eddie, will call Marwoodian parents anytime if there is a problem, including noise or disrespect. 4 Labor Day Reunion Permission Slip Date____________________________________________________________________ Camper Name____________________________________________________________ Camper Cell Phone Number_________________________________________________ Parent Phone Number(s)____________________________________________________ ________________________________________________________________________ Emergency Contact________________________________________________________ Relationship of Contact to Child_____________________________________________ Contact Phone Number_____________________________________________________ I have a tent and will bring it and set it up!______________________________________ Parent Signature__________________________________________________________ Camper Signature_________________________________________________________ The parent signing above, on behalf of her/his minor child/ward, does hereby release, discharge and covenant to hold harmless Ma?enka Jirasek and Edward Liss from any and all claims, causes of action, and liability of any kind or nature, arising out of, directly or indirectly, the child’s / ward’s participation in this event.
